This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
