New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police released security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
