JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Strives to Resolve the Anime's Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an original movie. Rather, the recent cinematic release from the JuJutsu Kaisen supernatural series acts as a recap of the show's sophomore season combined with the initial episodes of its upcoming season, which kicks off the Culling Games narrative from the source material. This positions Execution, which has been given a fresh preview, the first way to see the start of the next season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The film debuts in Japanese theaters on November 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.

The Culling Games Storyline

In the Culling Game arc, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is introduced in the anime series and is charged by sorcery authorities to execute his classmate Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight occurs for the very first time on the big screen, and if the animation team at the production house have an exceptional piece as the two-part Thunderclap episodes waiting in the wings for viewers this end-of-year period, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the surprise that fans have anticipated.

The Thunderclap Debate

"The Thunderclap sequence" from the second season is often hailed as one of the greatest sequences in the history of anime, in spite of the major issues in 2023 when the installments originally aired. It was reported that the creators were suffering from crunch conditions to the point, and the released version that aired at the time was unfinished and supposedly not what the animators initially intended.

The Intense Confrontation

The episode involves a heavily anticipated fight between two strong jujutsu users, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It boasts experimental animation, masterful camera work, and thrilling combat. A follow-up Blu-ray release provided an opportunity to add additional scenes to flesh out the conflict. So it seemed possible Execution could enhance the fight further. However, examining the recent teaser, it's unclear if that fight has been given extra attention. It'd be a shame if it hadn't, because a moment so epic has to be seen on the biggest screen with the optimal viewing experience.

The Second Season's Triumph

The second season of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become the top anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were aired consecutively, it was the focus of attention for an extended period in the animation fandom. Fans had heard of the production challenges, which made them admire what they viewed even more. People clamored to see if the home release, released on March 18, would include new footage to the sequence or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were overjoyed to see exactly that, alongside color corrections, smoother movement, and different color grading.

The Feature's Advantage

But the home video can only improve what has initially broadcast in the original airing, whereas the cinematic experience has the opportunity to properly present the moment with additional alterations and freshly created footage.

A Magnum Opus

As it stands, these episodes represent the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by Mappa, notably because of the issues they faced at the time. It's garnered the attention of anime fans all over the world, and the Culling Games arc is a much-expected plotline of next year. If the studio wants to start the year off right, revisit the show's top scene once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've experienced so far.
