Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - stated they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with notable success and shot down a several projectiles," it added.

Officials reported missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
